The present study of sexuality in the elderly is a critical analysis of the panorama that has historically permeated research on human aging, whose emphasis was only associated with decrepitude, with the theme of sexuality at this stage being approached in a reductionist way. Thus, the objective was to understand sexuality in the elderly with an emphasis on psychological aspects, in view of the complexity of this phenomenon. This study methodologically consists of a literature review, which was built from the consultation of the SciELO database, Google academic, etc., being selected 20 articles that met the inclusion criteria. The results indicated, in general, that sexuality is made up of pluralities, determinants of the singularities of individuals, with biopsychosocial factors, especially cultural, political and ideological, that cause marked inhibition or withdrawal of its expression. With this, they revealed important aspects such as the existence of perceptions focused on the feelings of love, respect, complicity, but also in the form of decreasing the pattern of sexual activities presented, that is, in addition to prejudice in relation to the form of manifestation of affection. between seniors and the strengthening of affective bonds over the years. Today, these elderly people face their sexual life in a repressive view, being received in the past, and the effect of doubts, fears and prejudices regarding this topic, making them not enjoy their sexuality at this point in life. Therefore, it is necessary to bring information about sexuality in this age group, which will allow the acquisition of various knowledge on this subject, abolishing myths, taboos and such erroneous information. Thus, it is possible to consider the necessary re-signification of sexuality in the aging process. It appears that in the light of this analysis of the production of knowledge on the subject is still incipient, highlighting the need for future investigations on the subject, especially with a psychological focus.
